ABOUT THE PROJECT

The PATREO research project examines the satisfaction and quality of life of patients who have undergone or are planning to undergo reconstructive surgery. It is a collaborative effort between the Department of Plastic Surgery at University Hospital Královské Vinohrady and the Third Faculty of Medicine, Charles University; University Hospital Bulovka and the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University; and University Hospital Plzeň and the Faculty of Medicine in Plzeň, Charles University.

The name PATREO is an acronym for patient-reported outcomes. This modern approach to clinical research focuses on the effect of surgical interventions on patients’ physical and mental well-being. We track how patients feel after surgery, their perceptions of the results, and how the surgery has changed or influenced their daily lives. These subjective experiences are linked with objective clinical data, such as postoperative complications. The information collected helps both physicians and patients better understand how reconstructive procedures affect quality of life, support decision-making about the most suitable surgery type, and contribute to enhancing the quality of care.

The uniqueness of the PATREO project lies in its comprehensive integration of surgical and psychological perspectives. PATREO connects modern clinical research with the human dimension of care – because every story matters.
